People Still Buy Music, You Know: The week’s best-selling records (3/2-3/8)

What are your neighbors listening to? Oxford Karma decided to survey Oklahoma mainstay Guestroom Records about its top-sellers each week to figure out just that. Here’s what was flying off the shelves/out of the crates this week:

1. Purity Ring — Another Eternity
2. Various Artists — Ultra High Frequencies: The Chicago Party
3. Broadcast — Broadcast Bundle
4. José Gonzalez — Vestiges & Claws
5. Dan Deacon — Glass Riffer
6. Led Zeppelin — Physical Graffiti
7. Father John Misty — I Love You, Honeybear
8. JD McPherson — Let the Good Times Roll
9. Howard Shore — Silence of the Lambs OST
10. Ibeyi — Ibeyi

In a bit of news that bodes well for Purity Ring’s date in Tulsa, the Edmonton electronic duo pushed and pulled its way to the top spot this week with its sophomore LP. The public access, electronic soul compilation Ultra High Frequencies: The Chicago Party grooves its way into No. 2, while Warp’s reissue of Broadcast’s entire back catalog (one tragically cut short by the passing of singer Trish Keenan in 2011) finally made those records widely available to the public … who responded by buying them in droves.

Holdovers José Gonzalez, Dan Deacon (who made a surprise appearance at Tulsa’s new Urban Outfitters last weekend), Led Zeppelin, Father John Misty, JD McPherson and Ibeyi all head strong from last week, while Howard Shore’s creepy soundtrack for horror classic Silence of the Lambs was re-pressed and debuts in the ninth slot. Let’s just hope a spike in the consumption of human meat doesn’t follow.
