There’s a whole lot of nostalgia going on this week, be it bands that are still producing quality work or others still cashing in on that goodwill earned 20 years ago. Either way, get ready to go hurtling back through time this the slate of shows scheduled in Oklahoma through Wednesday.

They Might Be Giants
Friday, May 15
Diamond Ballroom | Oklahoma City

Quirky alt-rock duo TMGB has been going strong for over three decades, and it’s hard to appreciate just how hard that is to do. There have been forays into children’s music, film soundtracks, podcasts and just about everything you can imagine, all coming full circle into their 17th studio album, Glean, which came out in April.

Beau Jennings & the Tigers with Samantha Crain and Cameron Neal (Horse Thief)
Friday, May 15
Opolis | Norman

Beau Jennings and Horse Thief frontman Cameron Neal are some of the most vaunted songwriters around these here parts. But what might be the real draw for this show, in particular, is Samantha Crain, playing her first high-profile Oklahoma gig since the announcement of her new album due this summer.

39th Street Jazzy Fest featuring Native Lights, Idabel, Jabee, Elms, Bowlsey & more
Saturday, May 16
39th Street District | Oklahoma City

Oklahoma loves it some music festivals. And the newest entry into the fold is 39th Street Jazzy Fest, featuring an eclectic bill of locals that covers the gamut from shoegaze to folk to hip-hop and every little bit in between.

Spoon with Sweet Spirit
Sunday, May 17
Diamond Ballroom | Oklahoma City

It’s probably a good thing we didn’t interview Spoon because it would have gone something like this. Regardless, Spoon is still making some of the finest indie rock you’ll ever hear, as evidenced by their strong 2014 release They Want My Soul.

Howie Day
Sunday, May 17
The Blue Door | Oklahoma City

Your aunt/older sister is pretty excited about this one.

Hop Jam Beer & Music Festival featuring Hanson, Polyphonic Spree, Black Joe Lewis & more
Sunday, May 17
Brady Arts District | Tulsa

Parlaying your success as a teenage rock band into your own beer called MmmHops is the most American thing I’ve ever heard. Having a beer and music festival to celebrate that fact is pretty perfect.

New Kids on the Block with TLC and Nelly
Monday, May 18
Chesapeake Energy Arena | Oklahoma City

Man, this is a good week for aunts/older sisters.

Chevelle with The Used
Wednesday, May 20
Diamond Ballroom | Oklahoma City

Chevelle is the one relic of my pubescent, modern-rock-loving days that I can’t ever seem to shake.

Chipper Jones with Corduroi, The Hitt Boyz and Milk Jr.
Wednesday, May 20
Dope Chapel | Norman

Chipper Jones will forever be the best band named after a ’90s-era Atlanta Braves player until some noise-rock group calls itself Andruw Jones.
