Husbands release two new songs, sun shines a little bit brighter

As the snow on the ground melts away and spring creeps closer and closer, there’s something apropos about Husbands’ new singles, “Getty” and “Phoenix,” beaming from my stereo. The Oklahoma City/D.C. duo of Wil Norton and Danny Davis has been consistently on-point with the whole headily infectious pop music thing, spanning nearly 20 releases — almost all of them singles — in less than two years, each bearing its own distinctly warm and welcoming ethos.  The new tracks are right in line with this creative spirit.

Here’s what Norton had to say about the songs on Husbands’ Bandcamp:

“Two songs we’ve had in the chamber for a while. Danny and I recorded most of ‘Getty’ over a cold November weekend at some AirBnB house in Nashville while our wives went shopping in Franklin. Though Danny wouldn’t say it, I suspect that ‘Phoenix’ might be about the awkward and exciting process of learning to write songs with somebody new. I didn’t write the lyrics, but I’d like to think it’s sort of about the whole process of collaborating – the joys and fears of the whole thing. // Or, at least, that’s how I interpret Danny’s lyrics, because we sort of DID meet on a plane in Phoenix, Arizona.”

Give the new tracks a listen below. And while you’re at it, go catch up on the rest of their discography before they drop a string of new tracks here in the coming weeks.
