Guest List: The week’s best-selling records (May 25 – May 31)

thee oh sees

What are your neighbors listening to? Oxford Karma decided to survey Oklahoma mainstay Guestroom Records about its top-sellers each week to figure out just that. Here’s what was flying off the shelves/out of the crates this week:

1. Thee Oh Sees – Mutilator Defeated at Last
2. Joan Jett – I Love Rock & Roll Deluxe Reissue
3. Best Coast – California Nights
4. Ceremony – L-Shaped Man
5. Blur – The Magic Whip
6. Shelby Lynne – I Can’t Imagine
7. Hot Chip – Why Makes Sense?
8. Mumford & Sons – Wilder Mind
9. Rush – Hemispheres
10. Faith No More – Sol Invictus

Thee Oh Sees were thee top sellers last week, as the California scuzz-punks’ new album defeated the competition at last with a pummeling brand of garage rock. Meanwhile, Joan Jett (you may have heard of her) reissued her beloved I Love Rock n Roll, much to the delight of others who love rock ‘n’ roll, with indie/tween idols Best Coast, hardcore-turned-not-so-hardcore act Ceremony and apparent immortals Blur rounding out the top five.

Singer-songwriter Shelby Lynne probably didn’t imagine that her new album I Can’t Imagine would make its way onto the list at number six, but it did, and irresistible dance-pop outfit Hot Chip doesn’t even want to make sense of its number seven placement. Apparently you guys still like Mumford & Sons for some weird fucking reason, as they crashed the party yet again at number eight, while Rush’s 1978 classic Hemispheres rounds out the top 10 alongside Faith No More’s triumphant comeback album Sol Invictus.

Editor’s note: The feature formerly known as People Still Buy Music, You Know has since been renamed Guest List, a title so incredibly perfect that we somehow overlooked it despite it staring us right in the face this whole damn time.
