Gentle Ghost summons spirit of Beyoncé, drops surprise album

Norman noise-rock band Gentle Ghost quietly released its new album, Second Arrow, this afternoon. It’s appropriate that the nine-track effort would creep out unannounced like a bump in the night; the band had teased new music but never officially announce a release date.

It’s the first batch of new songs from the band since 2013’s 7-inch single First Arrow and the full-length followup to 2010’s Family. That year found Gentle Ghost on the Main Stage of Norman Music Festival, followed by a spot opening up for Welsh indie pop collective Los Campesinos! that fall. The band has maintained a relatively low-key presence in the time since, though Second Arrow goes to show something was in the works all along. In addition to the regular lineup of Seth McCarroll, Adam Huskerson, Brady Smith, Eric Nuani, and Tyler Huskerson, the album features contributions from Nicholas Ley (Colourmusic), Ryan Lindsey (BRONCHO), Matt Duckworth (Flaming Lips, Stardeath & White Dwarfs), Erin Walker, and Dustin Ragland.

Expect a full review of the album next week.
