Garage-rockers Twin Peaks, Fort Lean to play free OKC show

Twin Peaks are good, free is nice and comped concert admission is even better. Doing the math in my head, I believe that makes a free Twin Peaks show the best thing on Earth. It’s pretty high up there, at least, and there are exceedingly few ways to have more fun on a Sunday evening than a good, old fashioned rock ‘n’ roll show by some of the most exciting names in the game.

On Sunday, March 15, entertainment platform Amplifan presents a free show featuring the Chicago garage rock outfit, along with Brooklyn indie-rockers Fort Lean, at City Presbyterian in Oklahoma City. The concert is all-ages, doors open at 6 p.m. and the show will start at 7. Coors joins Amplifan in sponsoring the event (a partnership set to plot more free or low-cost shows throughout the year), along with support from yours truly, Oxford Karma.

This is Twin Peaks’ first show in Oklahoma City after a pair of 2014 appearances at Opolis in Norman with Eagulls and Radkey, respectively. The youthful quartet out of Chicago made quite a stir with their sophomore album, Wild Onion, coupled with a growing reputation as one of the better (and most boisterous) live acts to emerge in the past year. Fuzzy and a little drunk on ’60s psych-pop, jams like “I Found a New Way,” “Making Breakfast” and “Flavor” are about as fun as they come.

Fort Lean OKC

Fort Lean knows its way around a good hook. The New York outfit won over a good many listeners with its sunny pop anthem “Beach Holiday” back in 2011. Four years later, the five-piece is prepping the release of a new record, Quiet Day, due this spring. Early singles “I Don’t Mind” and “Cut to the Chase” boast the same penchant for catchy melodies, but shake things up with shades of sassy psychedelic rock and lo-fi charms.
