After taking a breather in 2014, 35 Denton — the massive music festival in the heart of Denton, Texas — is back for another go March 13-15. This year’s bill features revered vets like The Zombies (!) and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, plus established touring acts like Son of Stan and Cymbals Eat Guitars — in addition to the countless Texas acts represented (including Okie-tied The Chloes).

Some of Oklahoma’s best and brightest will also be on display, including OKC schizo-pop vets DEERPEOPLE, local singer-songwriter Allie Lauren, Norman scuzz-rockers Helen Kelter Skelter, experimental dream-poppers Larry Chin, and country act The Stockyard Playboys. If you make the two-hour trip down I-35, here’s when and where you can support your local musicians:

  • DEERPEOPLE: 2:15 p.m. Saturday, Stage 2
  • Allie Lauren: 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Greater Denton Arts Council
  • Helen Kelter Skelter: 11:30 p.m. Friday, Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studio
  • Larry Chin: 11:30 p.m. Friday, The LABB
  • The Stockyard Playboys: 3:45 p.m. Sunday, Dan’s Silverleaf

As someone who’s been to 35 Denton numerous times, believe me when I say that it’s an incredibly well-oiled machine. It’s not all that dissimilar from Norman Music Festival in that it’s spread out amongst the numerous bars/clubs in downtown Denton with a couple of outdoor main stages featuring the larger bands. You’re bound to discover a handful of worthwhile acts while you’re down there (check out Mind Spiders — they rule), and it’d make for a damn-fun weekend road trip.
