Rained out Oklahoma art exhibition openings given second lease on life

"Night Shift Split" by Blake Stewart

Mother Nature gives no two shits about what’s going on any given night. So when she stormed into Oklahoma and squatted there for a good portion of last week, a number of Oklahoma City and Norman events were washed out in the process. Some of them are gone for good (RIP, University of Oklahoma Class of 2015 Commencement Ceremony), but some will make up for it with receptions scheduled in the next few days — that is, unless they get flooded away again.

Friday, May 15

Dope Chapel | Norman

Featuring the works of Eli Casiano (whom we profiled back in February) and Blake Stewart, this joint exhibition will get a proper opening a week after its scheduled debut. Graphically bold and vibrantly colorful, it’s a welcome break from the bleak gray skies that have barely relented so far this May.

ReBrand
Friday, May 15

Graphite Elements & Design | Oklahoma City

Naturally, when the opening night of your exhibit Brand gets a damper put on it by the Charlie Brown-like thundercloud hanging directly overhead, what do you do? If you’re Jack Fowler, you open a week later and call it ReBrand. Fowler is best known for his imaginative Oklahoma City skyline paintings, but he’ll have a little bit of everything on display for this outing.

As Yet UnNamed
Monday, May 18

The Depot | Norman

Wisely dodging what looks to be another wave of storms coming through the area this weekend, As Yet UnNamed honors the retrospective of famed Oklahoma artist O. Gail Poole. This exhibit — which highlights Poole’s sketchbook works, for which he would become best known — should help you conquer that case of the Mondays.
